Race Engineering: A Tyre Pressure Strategy In The Wet
A good wet weather tyre pressure strategy is to inflate your tyres to your target hot pressure.
Thoughts on why this might work: (This is my empirical experience, I donβt really know β¦ ?ββοΈ)
- Maximise tyre contact patch β> Tyre not expanding as much in wet
- Increase stiffness β> More work β> More tyre temp to compensate for wet
- Tread block on tyre may open up β> Less aquaplaning
- Sidewall stiffness is higher β> Less aquaplaning
Reference: target hot pressures.
