Race Engineering: A Tyre Pressure Strategy In The Wet
A good tyre pressure strategy in the wet is to inflate your tyres to your target hot pressure.
Thoughts on why this might work: (This is my empirical experience, I don’t really know … ?♂️)
- Maximise tyre contact patch –> Tyre not expanding as much in wet
- Increase stiffness –> More work –> More tyre temp to compensate for wet
- Tread block on tyre may open up –> Less aquaplaning
- Sidewall stiffness is higher –> Less aquaplaning
Reference: target hot pressures.
