Race Engineering: A Tyre Pressure Strategy In The Wet

A good wet weather tyre pressure strategy is to inflate your tyres to your target hot pressure.

Thoughts on why this might work: (This is my empirical experience, I don’t really know … ?‍♂️)

  • Maximise tyre contact patch β€”> Tyre not expanding as much in wet
  • Increase stiffness β€”> More work β€”> More tyre temp to compensate for wet
  • Tread block on tyre may open up β€”> Less aquaplaning
  • Sidewall stiffness is higher β€”> Less aquaplaning

Reference: target hot pressures.
