Race Engineering: A Tyre Pressure Strategy In The Wet
A good wet weather tyre pressure strategy is to inflate your tyres to your target hot pressure.
Thoughts on why this might work: (This is my empirical experience, I don’t really know … ?♂️)
- Maximise tyre contact patch —> Tyre not expanding as much in wet
- Increase stiffness —> More work —> More tyre temp to compensate for wet
- Tread block on tyre may open up —> Less aquaplaning
- Sidewall stiffness is higher —> Less aquaplaning
